Making A DIFFERENCE

Why Work At Craft3

SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Our employees speak for themselves.

Tawni Regier
Compliance Manager, VP

CAREER ADVANCEMENT

We grow talent from within.

Tawni Regier joined Craft3 in 2010 as a temporary loan administrator. Her six-month position led to a permanent role on our consumer team. From there she initiated a move to our finance team, where her love of numbers and organization helped her excel and receive a promotion to direct our compliance team – her current position.

When asked how she has grown her career at Craft3, Tawni notes the organization's formal and informal mentorship programs as well as its commitment to professional development. But most beneficial she says has been, “the internal learning, from management above and laterally from peers. There's so much talent and people are always ready to help you learn."

Saif Hakim
Commercial Lending Director, SVP

INNOVATION

We use capital for social good.

Craft3 strives to extend the benefits of responsible financing to areas of the market not currently well-served. For observant Muslims, Islam's prohibition on paying interest can make financing an impossibility. This can put Muslim-owned businesses, community organizations, schools, and mosques at a disadvantage. Needing to save the entire cost of a project or building purchase can set them back years.

Craft3’s Saif Hakim used his commercial lending experience and his cultural knowledge of Islam to help create Shari’a compliant financing. This financing, known as Musharakah, is a form of partnership (Shirkat) in which the two parties own the asset in common and share the risk. Instead of paying interest, the borrower gradually buys ownership shares from the financier so he or she owns 100% of the asset at the end of a specified term. Craft3’s Shari’a compliant financing is helping Muslims throughout the Pacific Northwest and also serving as a regional and national model."

Jennifer Peterson
Digital Marketing Manager, VP

CONTINUOUS LEARNING

We invest in our employees.

Jennifer Peterson started at Craft3 in 2004, when we were called ShoreBank Enterprise Pacific and had just a dozen or so employees. In the early days, she wore many hats. After asking herself how she could further her career and serve Craft3, Jennifer dove into marketing. While working full-time, she interned with a PR and marketing firm and used professional development funds to complete a Certificate in Digital Marketing from the University of Washington.

Jennifer is always learning because that’s her style and because digital marketing is always changing, but she sees one constant: “Craft3 has always been willing to invest in me.” Craft3 offers annual professional development and tuition reimbursement benefits to encourage staff to sharpen their professional skills.

Jeff Baker
Commercial Lending Team Manager, VP

VOLUNTEERISM

We are connected to communities and causes across Oregon and Washington.

When Jeff Baker joined Craft3 in 2017 after working as a manager at a bank, he was pleased to learn about our volunteer time off policy. Employees can take paid time off from their work week — up to 32 hours per year — to volunteer! Jeff currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Latino Community Association of Central Oregon, the High Desert Food and Farm Alliance, Mosaic Medical, and the Crook County Economic Development Corporation. He reflects: “Boards are a lot of work and sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough time. But for me, it’s work that matters and is satisfying because it lets me use my skills to serve my community.”

Other Craft3 employees have used their volunteer time off to assist with tax returns, maintain trails, distribute food, and participate in beach and neighborhood cleanups. Their dedication and energy are inspiring.

Chris Larson
Innovation & Evaluation Manager, VP

COLLABORATION

We work together.

In 2018, Chris Larson convened a team to overhaul Craft3’s loan origination and CRM systems, both of which we’d outgrown. The geographically dispersed team that included commercial lenders, consumer lenders, IT staff, and loan administrator got to work.

The project challenged, and significantly changed, many long-held data and loan origination practices. Success was due in large part to collaboration.  Chris explains, “this was really a people project masquerading as an IT project,” and it couldn't have happened without a hard-working team that was given the time and resources to innovate and manage organizational change.
