Ron and Muriel Jensen

Craft3 provided the couple with a Home Energy Loan to install a new natural gas furnace and decommission the old, asbestos laden one.
Ron and Muriel love their American Foursquare home where they have lived for 40 years and raised three children. The downside of living in a 1900’s home is an old furnace and even older windows. Some months it can cost over $400 and 100 gallons of oil to keep their home just warm enough to prevent it from going to ruins. But Ron and Muriel were never really warm and comfortable.

Last winter their furnace quit working three times before it finally died. They wanted to replace the furnace, but just couldn’t afford it. Ron had been working as an artist and Muriel a Harlequin novelist when the recession hit. This brought an end to both careers and cut their household income by 80 percent. With Ron age 83 and Muriel 72, starting a new job wasn’t an option.

Fortunately, their P&L Johnson Mechanical contractor knew about the unique partnership between Craft3 and Energy Trust of Oregon, whose Savings Within Reach offer helps low- and moderate-income families make home energy upgrades more affordable. Craft3 provided the couple with a Home Energy Loan to install a new natural gas furnace and decommission the old, asbestos laden one.

The days of large heating bills are gone. Today, the Jensen’s make small $33 loan payments through their NW Natural bill. Best of all, Ron and Muriel are warm and comfortable in their home. Learn more about the Home Energy Loan.
