"Craft3 believed in us when the path was unconventional. Their support gave us the confidence to transform a dream into reality."

Andrea and Honorio Martinez are avid dog lovers, who turned their passion for pets into a thriving business. After years of working in their respective fields, the couple took what they described as a “leap of faith” and decided to purchase PupScrub, a well-established dog wash, grooming, and retail store in Gresham, Oregon. The business served the community for over 20 years, offering six wash stations, full-service grooming, and a wide array of pet products.

The Martinezes approached Craft3 for a loan to acquire the business, including all equipment, inventory, and working capital. As part of their business plan, they planned to continue working their outside jobs to provide additional, stable income during the start-up phase.

"Business acquisition loans are often some of the strongest, and frankly, my favorite, type of deals to work on,” Senior Business Lender Andrew Mattingly shares. “Someone has already built something special, and the next owner steps in ready to honor and grow that legacy. Andrea and Honorio’s passion for PupScrub was clear from day one, and supporting them felt like a perfect fit for the business and the community.”

Although this would be a new venture for the couple into entrepreneurship, Andrea brought a knowledge of business management and Honorio brought years of experience in dog walking, grooming, and care.

“With the guidance and support of Craft3, we were able to navigate the unfamiliar and step confidently into a new chapter,” Andrea reflects. “Today, we bring pride, care, and innovation to the pet industry, an industry that hasn’t always felt inclusive of people who look like us or share our background.”

At PupScrub, Andrea and Honorio provide a welcoming space for pet owners and their four-legged friends. Their hands-on approach to business includes offers, such as grooming days reserved for more sensitive dogs, no kennel wait times, personalized grooming, as well as adventure hiking packages.

As first-generation immigrants, Andrea hopes to inspire others to follow in their path:

“Entrepreneurship doesn’t have to follow a single blueprint. With courage, determination, and the right support, it’s possible to create your own space, redefine expectations, and make a lasting impact.
